Brown Legacy Law: Website Design
A welcoming, editorial-style website for Brown Legacy Law, an estate planning and trust administration practice in California. Because clients often avoid the topic, warm photography and generous white space put visitors at ease before they ever book.
brownlegacylaw.com’s home page
Focused on the message, the visuals mix brand photography with stock imagery of people and places, breaking up the text rather than competing with it.
The palette is deliberately soft to counterbalance PANTONE® 19-1875 TCX Emboldened, the bold red that leads the brand’s identity. The white background is actually an off-white tone to ease the reading fatigue of stark white, and the black is based on PANTONE 19-4206 TCX Black Robe, a soft black whose name nods to the firm’s profession.
Color Selection Note: I start with Pantone’s textile (TCX) colors because each one has a name, and a name connects more easily than a string of random characters and numbers. Pantone is also a shared language for carrying a brand’s colors into the real world, from clothing to printed marketing materials, giving manufacturers and printers a common starting point. Expect a close match, not an exact one, since colors shift between screens, paper, and fabric. PANTONE® is a registered trademark of Pantone LLC.
Every service page stands on its own and ends with a direct way to book a consultation. Visitors can land on any page, from search, a referral, or a blog post, so the next step is always one tap away.
The mobile version of brownlegacylaw.com
A Mobile-Only Feature
User testing revealed a problem: on phones, participants struggled to find the primary button in the header. Custom CSS now places it next to the hamburger menu, so booking a consultation or reaching the contact form is always within thumb’s reach. The solution made sense, so I now use it on sayfront.com and build it into future website design projects.
The Result
In the month after launch, Brown Legacy Law gained triple its usual number of new clients, and they were a better fit too.
“The clients are also more in line with the type of client I’m searching for.”
— W. Brown, Attorney at Law & CEO of Brown Legacy Law
Built on Squarespace for its balance of visual flexibility and easy content management, the site lets the firm keep its content current without a developer. Custom CSS handles the details that out-of-the-box templates can’t, like the mobile header button.
